RAVI AZAD

MEng CEng MICE MIStructE

FOUNDING DIRECTOR

An engineer since 2003, Ravi loves to get involved in key design decisions from the outset of a project, to help create an economical and easily constructable design from the outset.

He has a particular love for elegant sculptural design in steel and glass, that really showcases the structure. As well as being our founding director, he also holds the role of Professional Review Examiner for the ICE, and often delivers engineering talks in high schools and colleges across London.

Other materials Ravi likes to work with include woods and irons, in the context of the golf course on a rare Sunday morning.

AHP2405016-17.jpg

PUGLAS

ENTERTAINMENT MANAGER

RSA’s first (unofficial) employee, what Puglas lacks in engineering ability he makes up for in personality.

Puglas enjoys chicken, ham, long walks, belly scratches, cuddles, meeting new people, long snoozes, 'home time' and trips to the local pubs.

Dislikes include the rain, mud, car alarms, horses, vegetables, Jess Glynne, Amazon deliveries, "lock-down" and being woken up.

GEMMA SHEARD

MEng

ASSOCIATE

Having enjoyed working with Ravi previously, Gemma joined RSA in 2018 as one of our first employees.

She has always had an interest in building structures, ever since childhood, and settled on structural engineering as a career when she realised she was more interested in the structural form framing a space, rather than planning the space itself (we leave that bit to the architects!).

At the weekend you can find Gemma on the agility course with our head of security, trying to teach her some new tricks before a rewarding treat in the form of a pint (or biscuits for Winnie) in one of East London’s many breweries.

AHP2405016-19.jpg

DAVID McGOWAN

MEng CEng MICE MIStructE

ASSOCIATE

Dave graduated from his hometown University of Liverpool in 2013, and has since lived and worked in the London/Essex region.

For him, the best part of the job is collaborating with an ambitious design team to create a building that is special. Whether it’s a new large-scale waterpark development, or an (award-winning!) sensitive and sustainable refurbishment to a historic building, Dave enjoys working on a broad range of building types having developed a wealth of experience across most sectors.

When he’s not at work, Dave can be found running, cycling or hiking along the trails of nearby Epping Forest.

ROWAN TILSTON

MEng CEng MICE

SENIOR ENGINEER

Inspired to become an engineer by her love of maths, Rowan worked for a global engineering firm straight out of uni, and then a medium sized central london consultancy before settling here at RSA, picking up plenty of experience in large scale residential and infrastructure projects along the way.

As well as her degree in Civil Engineering, she developed a love of the great outdoors while studying in South Wales, and can often be found on the weekends hiking somewhere outside of London.

Keen to inspire the next generation of engineers, Rowan volunteers as a STEM Ambassador with the ICE.

KAROLINA KRAWCZYK

OFFICE MANAGER

Karolina has been taking great care of us as our office manager since 2021.

Since then, she has developed a real interest in engineering and the built environment. So much so, that she will often watch programmes about the world’s tallest buildings or longest bridges with her kids at home, when they aren’t all cooking or taking a walk together.

We have Karolina to thank for our excellently organised office socials, incredibly diverse and well stocked drinks cupboards, thriving office plant life, nutrition programmes of our security and entertainment managers, and the general smooth day to day running of the RSA office.

OLIVER ROWORTH

BSc CEng MIStructE

SENIOR ENGINEER

Ollie has been working  in the construction industry since 2012, involved in a vast range of projects from prestigious redevelopments of Grade I II and II* buildings, to modern industrial steel frames.

His favourite part of design is coming up with the initial ideas at scheming stage.

Ollie is inspired by engineering wonders such as the Pantheon or the Pyramids at Giza, incredible feats of engineering way ahead of their time.

Ollie shares Ravi’s love for golf, and probably gets to spend a bit more time on the course than Ravi. Although a lot of his time outside of the RSA office is focussed on building his property empire!

DOMINYKAS TALANDIS

BEng MSc

PROJECT ENGINEER

Dom joined us as a graduate engineer in October 2021, and has since been promoted to Project Engineer.

Having excelled in maths and physics at school, Dom felt that structural engineering was the logical career path to take, allowing him to make a positive impact on people’s lives.

He has too many hobbies to list here and loves to try out any new sport. You name it, and Dom has probably tried it, and maybe even got a few medals! (Grappling is one example)

Inspired by the likes of Ove Arup, and his global influence, Dom enjoys steel design, particularly larger structures he can model in TSD.

ISABELLA CASTRICHINI

BSc

GRADUATE ENGINEER

Isabella joined us in 2023, all the way from Toronto!

As someone new to London, she has taken up running as a way to see more of her neighbourhood and our capital city’s famous landmarks and is currently building up to her first half marathon!

One of her favourite landmarks is The Gherkin, which Isabella feels encapsulates creativity, sustainability, and stability in a functional space – qualities we should always be striving for in every design.

She enjoys collaborating with the design team to solve problems, and produce unique solutions.

AHP2405016-46.jpg

ISSAM EL-HAOUDAR

 BSc

GRADUATE ENGINEER

Issam is one of our graduate engineers, and has been here at RSA since November 2023.

Engineering is in Issam’s blood, with an engineer father inspiring him to follow in his footsteps. He is passionate about structural design, particularly reinforced concrete, as you can tell from his own words on the subject:

“Steel and concrete are my dynamic duo when it comes to design, like the peanut butter and jelly of structural engineering, with steel providing the tensile strength to counter concrete's weakness, creating a combination so strong it could hold up even the wildest architectural dreams.”

Issam is sure to be a wizard of concrete one day – a future Freyssinet.

TOM McGOVERN

BIM MANAGER

Tom has not only 8 years of his own career experience behind him, but 2 generations of his family before him were draughtsmen. With his grandad becoming a draughtsman after WW2,  and his dad in the industry for 40+ years, drawing is truly part of his DNA.

He particularly enjoys the satisfaction of sending out a complete set of construction drawings, fully communicating the structural design and details of a project.

His weekends are mostly divided between renovating his house, and supporting his beloved West Ham at the London Staduim. Hard to say which is the more pain inducing pastime!

ES.jpg

EMILE SWAIN

TECHNICIAN/APPRENTICE ENGINEER

Currently dividing his working week between studying for his BEng in Civil Engineering, and carrying out engineering design and draughting for us here at RSA, Emile is a hardworking and highly motivated apprentice engineer.

He is particularly inspired by Antoni Gaudi’s La Sagrada Familia, and the clever way that they are completing the cathedral in lightweight prestressed stone panels now, after over 100 years of construction which started with traditional masonry.

In the free time he has left after designing, drawing and studying structure, you can probably find Emile cycling through Epping Forest, on the golf course or football pitch.

WINNIE

SECURITY MANAGER

Winnie has risen to Head of Security at RSA due to her ability to sniff out treats and her hard work on the agility course.

Her likes include Tiger, going to the pub, walks in the forest, Karolina, treats, going swimming and lying on the sofa.

She’s not the biggest fan of Puglas or Ollie for some reason…

Events and News

Happy Birthday Emile!

We celebrated Emile's milestone birthday with a team lunch at Soiree, not far from our office in Buckhurst Hill.

Its not often that most of us get invited to a 21st birthday, so we couldn't let this pass without a celebration.
